High-risk pregnancy is not just medical risk. It’s living with uncertainty for weeks or months at a time. It’s waiting for the next test, the next appointment, the next piece of information, and trying to live your life when everything with your pregnancy feels uncertain.

People with uncomplicated pregnancies often don’t understand why you can’t just relax. Your medical team is focused on managing medical risk, not on helping you process the emotional weight or the fear that shows up at night when you don’t have clear answers.

You’re not meant to carry this alone.

When you work with me as your high-risk pregnancy doula, you have a steady partner throughout your pregnancy. Someone you can return to again and again to help you make sense of your reality and think through what matters most to you when certainty is not an option.

I’m not here to promise that everything will be fine. I’m here to help you move through uncertainty with support, education, and confidence.

High-Risk Pregnancy Doula Support

I specialize in supporting parents navigating high-risk pregnancy. This includes VBAC, twins, IVF, perinatal mood disorders, premature labor, pregnancy after loss, and other medically complex situations. Many of the families I work with are also carrying trauma from previous pregnancies, births, or NICU experiences.

My role is non-medical. I don’t provide medical advice, interpret test results, or oppose your medical team’s recommendations. Instead, I help you slow down complex information, prepare thoughtful questions, and understand what medical recommendations mean for you now, during labor and early postpartum.

When information feels heavy or overwhelming, we focus on what is actually keeping you up at night and what you need to feel grounded and supported, even when certainty isn’t possible.

I’ve personally navigated two high-risk pregnancies and a 2.5-month NICU stay. I understand what it means to take pregnancy one appointment, one result, and one day at a time.

Pregnancy Coaching

I listen first. We start with what you’ve been told, what you’re worried about, what matters most to you, and what outcomes you’re hoping for. From there, we identify what kind of planning and support will be most helpful right now.

I will resource you. Fear thrives in confusion. Confidence grows with understanding. Over time, you learn how to identify relevant, evidence-based resources and recognize what information applies to your situation and what does not. By the end of our work together, most clients no longer feel the need to constantly search for answers online or rely on reassurance from others.

I help you plan without overconsuming information. Many families struggle with knowing what to focus on, when to seek additional support, and what questions to ask to protect their postpartum outcomes. I help you prioritize without being overwhelmed.

You receive steady, non-judgmental support. I hold your hand through uncertainty without making decisions for you. That is intentional. Learning to make informed choices, receive feedback, and trust yourself is part of the parenting journey.

I provide emotional and planning support, not clinical mental health care. I work alongside therapists, physicians, and other providers when appropriate, and I help you know when referrals may be useful.

I’m on call. This means I am a call or message away throughout your pregnancy when something comes up and you need support, perspective, or help preparing for next steps.

Structure of Care

This is not a fixed number of visits. Support unfolds as your pregnancy unfolds.

We begin with a comprehensive prenatal visit focused on your story, your concerns, and your goals.

A second visit functions as a private, personalized birth class tailored to your medical circumstances and preferences. We cover coping tools, birth planning frameworks, and preparation that accounts for your specific risk factors.

A third visit focuses on the fourth trimester so you are not navigating postpartum recovery and newborn care while depleted and unprepared.

When helpful, I may accompany you to a prenatal appointment to support you in asking questions and feeling grounded during medical discussions.

Support continues throughout your pregnancy as needed.

Labor, Birth, and Postpartum

I provide continuous emotional and physical support during labor and the hours after birth.

Following birth, we schedule a postpartum visit to support your recovery, processing of your birth experience, and transition into newborn care.

In addition to high-risk pregnancy doula support, I offer in-home newborn and postpartum care for days and nights.

High-Risk Pregnancy Doula: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a high-risk pregnancy doula and my OB or MFM?

Your medical team manages diagnosis, treatment, and clinical risk. I provide non-medical emotional, educational, and planning support with continuity of care. Over time, you gain confidence in navigating information and decision-making independently.

Will you advocate for me if I disagree with my medical team?

I support you in understanding your options by helping you prepare questions and access evidence-based resources relevant to your situation. I don’t make decisions for you or oppose medical care.

What if my birth plan changes or I need a planned cesarean?

I remain present and supportive regardless of how your birth unfolds.

What if I am hospitalized during pregnancy?

Support continues. Prenatal visits can take place in the hospital if needed.
